This early blooming rhododendron is a confection of reuffled lavendar flowers in the first few weeks of spring, each a rounded cluster atop a spray of leathery evergreen foliage. its the foliage that gives this plant its name, very dark purple-green, reaching near black tones, especially in the winter. this gives this shrub an edge that sets it apart from other early blooming rhodeys. Prefers moist well-drained soil.
